At 5:00 AM AST, the centre of Hurricane Sam was located near latitude 11.5° North and longitude 42.2° West or about 1470 miles East-Southeast of the Northern leeward islands.
Sam is moving toward the west at 15 miles per hour. This motion is expected to continue through tonight.
Maximum sustained winds are near 75 miles per hour with higher gusts. Sam is likely to become a major hurricane tonight or early Saturday.
